What does it actually take to walk away from a $1.8M real estate career and build something even bigger?
That's exactly what Krista Mashore did — and on this week's episode of the X-Factor Marketing Podcast, she breaks down every piece of how she got there.
Krista spent 17 years as a top-producing real estate agent, consistently selling over 100 homes a year and earning top-1% status nationwide. But at the 47-year mark, she made a move that surprised everyone who loved her most: she left it all behind to build a coaching and digital education business from zero.
Today, that business has crossed $72 million in revenue. Here's what she learned along the way.
How Do You Know When It's Time to Make a Career Pivot?
For Krista, the signal wasn't failure — it was exhaustion. She'd had her best year ever: $1.8 million in income, 154 homes sold as a solo agent. But she knew she couldn't sustain that pace for another decade.
"The fear of me leaving and failing was easier than the fear of me staying and doing what I'd been doing for 10 more years," she shared on the podcast.
That reframe — choosing the more manageable fear — is a framework any entrepreneur can use when they're standing at a crossroads and can't seem to move.
What's the Most Important Thing You Can Do to Build Your Brand Online?
Krista's answer is direct: figure out who your ideal client is, and create consistent, high-value educational content aimed at solving their problems. Not content about you. Content about them.
She also advocates for paid digital marketing — even at a modest scale. Her advice: skip the $7 coffee and put that money into Facebook or Instagram ads instead. The goal is simple but powerful: make it impossible for your ideal client not to know who you are.
"Be known before you're needed," she says, "so you can win before you arrive."
For real estate agents, this plays out in a listing appointment where sellers already know your track record, already trust your expertise, and are ready to say yes before you've even sat down.
Should Real Estate Agents Be Using AI Tools Right Now?
Krista spends 20-plus hours a week studying AI — and she's the first to say agents need to be thoughtful about how they use it.
Her framework: use AI to do more and better of what already works in your business, not to chase what's new. Before you adopt any new tool or technology, ask yourself what constraint it solves or what repetitive task it eliminates. If the answer isn't clear, it might just be a shiny object.
And speaking of shiny objects — she was asked about AI avatars for real estate agents. Her take? Skip it. People want people, especially in a high-trust transaction like buying or selling a home.
How Do You Overcome Imposter Syndrome When You're Scaling?
Krista's honesty about imposter syndrome is one of the most refreshing parts of this episode. Even at $72M, she admits the self-doubt doesn't disappear. What changes is how you respond to it.
She teaches a technique she calls "Stop, Snap and Switch" — a three-step physical and mental reset. When a negative thought surfaces, you stop and recognize it, snap a bracelet to the other wrist, and switch the thought to a reframe. The physical action interrupts the mental pattern. It sounds simple. It works.
What's the One Business Principle That Has Driven Krista's Success?
"Learn, implement, master, repeat."
Before you do something new, do more of what's working. Then do it better. Krista has hosted a webinar and a three-day virtual event every single month for over five years. That is not an accident — it's a philosophy in action.
For real estate agents, the parallel is clear: if open houses are working, don't abandon them for a new lead source. Run more open houses. Make them better. Master the conversion process. Then scale.
