Who is Tom Bohn and what is Inman 2.0?

Tom Bohn is the new CEO of Inman, the most iconic media brand in residential real estate. Six months into the role, he sat down with me at Inman Connect, his first as CEO, to talk about what comes next.

His entire career has been built around going into great brands that have started to wonder if their best days are behind them and helping them reimagine what they can become for a new generation.

Inman is that brand right now.

"News has become a commodity," Tom told me. "So how do you build a platform that is relevant for the next generation of agents and brokerages?"

That answer is Inman 2.0.

What is the Bloomberg Terminal for real estate?

Tom describes Inman 2.0 as the Bloomberg Terminal of residential real estate. And when you hear what it actually does, that comparison lands.

Here is what it pulls together in one platform:

40 years of Inman editorial content. Live data feeds from partners including Zillow, Benzinga, Side, and Lofty. Hyper local market movement updated daily. Peer comparison data. And the five things you need to know every morning, curated for where you sit in the industry.

"If you think about Bloomberg terminals, folks who are in that world don't use it occasionally when they get an email. They live in it," Tom said. "That is where we are envisioning this."

The goal is a platform agents open every morning and never close.

What is the AI green screen tool Inman built?

This was the moment in our conversation that caught me off guard because I am absolutely one of the people who does this.

Tom noticed that agents were taking Inman articles, standing in front of them on green screen, and sharing them on social media. His team wanted to fight it. His response? Make it easier.

They built a widget inside any Inman article that uses AI to generate a localized video script for your specific market. What does this mean for agents in Winter Park? What does this mean for your community? It then lets you record directly with your logos and branding and ship it straight to your social channels.

For agents who already do this, it is a game changer. For agents who have been curious about green screen content, it removes every barrier to starting.

What is the citizen journalist mission?

Tom wants 1000 storytellers, one on every street corner across the country, telling the stories no newsroom can tell.

Agents know things that journalists will never know. They know which neighborhood is about to be rezoned. They know the house on the corner that has sold four times in six years because they were there for all four of them. They know what it actually feels like to live and work in their market every single day.

Inman wants to be the platform where those stories live.

"We are on a mission to recruit a thousand storytellers who can share what is happening and provide local color to what it is like to be in this world and in this role," Tom said.

When he put out the call, almost everyone said yes immediately.

What surprised Tom most about real estate?

Two things stood out.

The collaboration. Despite being fierce competitors, agents and companies across the industry have shown up to help build Inman 2.0 with no strings attached. "Everyone has said yes. No one has said, well if you go work with them, we cannot help you."

And the social media sophistication. "I have been really impressed with how willing agents are to put themselves out there on social media and talk about their brand. There is a lot they could teach other industries."

He is right. Agents share their entire playbooks openly. The reason it works? Most people do not execute on them anyway.
